I recently had the chance to sit down and talk with Matt Adams for a brief chat about his new agency named CrowdMinders. Wanted to pick his mind about starting a media agency, reaching out to journalists, and his forecasts for the future of e-commerce in general.
And now, on to the interview!
MIKE: “Thanks for having me on such short notice”
“No Problem. OK so to start things off can you tell why a new agency after all your years freelancing?”
MIKE: “As much as I enjoyed freelancing, I just felt it was the right time to step things up and make a change.”
“Sounds ambitious. What would you say to others who may be considering taking a chance on something new?”
MIKE: “I’d tell them to just do your best in all that you do, because you can’t do better than that, at the end of the day.”
“What’s your advice for best practices when reaching out to journalists?”
MIKE: “Always best to have a relationship with the journalist, and I know everyone says that so I also like to add to the general advice people always here whenever possible. When you’re doing a product launch you have a lot more leeway in terms of journalists you can reach out to. During a launch I personally usually reach out to any journalist I feel is a good fit for the product.”
“That involves a lot of emails.”
MIKE: “Not only that but you have to send a unique email to each journalist. Just send it like you are talking to them. You can’t forum pitch or mass pitch this stuff, you’ve got to get out there and get social. That’s the only way to do it.”
“Last question: have you noticed any trends in e-commerce with new products launching?”
MIKE: “I think what we are seeing is that hardware has never been cheaper or easier to produce. This is giving rise to alot of compelling technology accessories. Power banks (one of my personal favorite product categories are a great example of this, where a young company can create a great new piece of hardware on a pretty small budget.”
“That’s all the time we have today, thanks for stopping by Mike.”
MIKE: “Thanks for having me, it’s always great seeing you.”
And there you have it folks, that was Mike Adams with “CrowdMinders”, be sure to check out his new agency if you get the chance, and stay tuned for more compelling tech coverage after the line break.
