Reddit is a site/app that’s home to thousands of “sub reddits”, which cover just about any topic you can think of. From mental health to politics to relationship advice, news, sports, and everything in between, Reddit has attracted over 330 million users, and continues to be one of the most widely-used social media/news sites out there.

If you’re looking to simply talk with someone, Reddit is the place to go. Here are six sub reddits for when you need to chat online.

1. r/AskReddit

Do you have a question about life, love, your job, or anything under the sun (or the universe at large)? The sub reddit “Ask Reddit” is the place to ask and have answered all of your burning questions. It’s a good place to start a conversation that can span several pages of comment threads and equally as good a place to receive both good and poor advice. It’s simply an “ask us” type page. The rules are simple, and most questions will get a valid response.

The sub reddit is currently home to about thirty million Redditors, so you’ll get no shortage of interaction with other people.

2. r/CasualConversation

Sometimes, you don’t have an issue or conflict to solve—you just want to have a good conversation with someone. That’s exactly what r/CasualConversation was made for. Listed as “the friendlier part of Reddit”, the sub reddit aims to provide a safer, more sensitive place for people of all walks of life to enjoy good conversation. Maybe you just got a promotion, and you need to tell someone. Maybe you’re doing great after your divorce, and you want to connect with other people who are divorced. Or, maybe you just had a good day and want to tell someone about it.

Whatever the case, r/CasualConversation is a great place to start. When you’re joining a new community, always be sure to read the rules so that you know what’s allowed as far as posting and commenting. Most sub reddits are moderated, and a few even have bots that will automatically remove a post if it doesn’t meet certain criteria.

3. r/Confession

Do you have something lurking in the back of your mind that you have to get off of your chest? r/Confession is a sub reddit dedicated to providing a space for people to divulge their deepest secrets and even some silly ones. If you need to talk to someone about something you feel guilty about, this is the place to do it.

The sub reddit is home to about 2.2 million users, so there are always plenty of posts to interact with. Again, check the sub reddit’s rules before you decide to post anything!

4. r/Dating

Chances are, you’ve got some dating experiences or problems you need to talk about with someone. Often, they can be too embarrassing or just too personal to share with family and friends, so why not get advice from a sub reddit designed specifically for those drudging through the dating world.

The sub reddit is home to nearly 400,000 users, and features stories, advice threads, discussions, and anything else you can imagine that pertains to dating. Did you just have a bad breakup? Vent about it here. Curious how other people are handling dating during the pandemic? There’s an answer waiting for you on r/Dating.

5. r/DecidingToBeBetter

We’ve all faced hard times or fallen into bad habits. Whether it’s sacrificing your gym membership for a new Xbox, falling off of your diet and exercise routine, or falling into drug abuse, bad habits can derail and potentially ruin your life.

r/DecidingToBeBetter is a place for people who have decided they want to be better. You can find advice columns, active discussions, and even answers to some of the hardest questions when you’re trying to get motivated to be better. The community is home to about half a million members, each with their own success stories to share. Let’s hear yours!

6. r/MakeNewFriendsHere

The internet is home to billions of people, and nearly 290,000 Reddit users call r/MakeNewFriendsHere home. The sub reddit is a friendly place to make friends with new people from all over the world. You won’t find any dating advice or romantic stuff here. The sub reddit is designed to be for making platonic connections, no romantic ones!

Whether you’re young or old, you can create a post or answer one of the many posts that frequent the page each day. There are some specific rules to follow, though, so be mindful of what you’re posting and always be careful when you’re answering someone else’s posts.
