Blizzard to punish unruly Overwatch gamers more severely
Blizzard is quite serious about implementing the punishments and the changes are effective immediately
Those abusing the game Overwatch and those caught abusing the reporting tools, both will face severe penalties from Blizzard
Reportedly, Blizzard is doubling its punishments for the notorious Overwatch players. Along with the permabans in place for cheaters, the developer will now also penalize anyone who abuses, harasses, spams, or griefs others.
The players who would violate the rules would be silenced, suspended, or even banned from the game. So, be aware, it’s certainly a warning to those fond of bending the rules. The company is quite serious about implementing the punishments and the changes are effective immediately, so you better be on your best behavior.
Blizzard is also planning some improvements to its Overwatch game as well, reporting and penalties system. In the coming months, it will start scaling competitive season bans, and add notifications that alert you when a player you’ve reported is disciplined. So, don’t try to take advantage of the tools just of you have a grudge on someone. Those caught abusing the reporting tools will receive more severe punishments.
Blizzard claims it’s working on bringing all its reporting features to PS4 and Xbox One. However, the developer didn’t offer an ETA for the updates.
Last year, Street Fighter V also began punishing rage quitters by resetting their League Points. Additionally, Ubisoft’s strict anti-cheating efforts for Rainbow Six Siege and The Division have included permabans for first-time offenders.
