‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ early estimates of box office collection set it out to be a blockbuster

While most of the films starring superstars that released recently were criticised and failed at the box-office whether it be SRK’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ or Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’. But, it seems like Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ is set to break the curse and emerge as a blockbuster.
‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ which stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in the leading roles tackles an important issue of sanitation and supports Narendra Modi headed ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyaan’. The film is directed by Shree Narayan Singh and released worldwide on August 11.
The film which opened in the box office without any competition did well on the first day with 30-35% occupancy in the theatres during the morning show. The film released in 3000 screens across India and in 590 screens overseas. The evening shows seemed to be really profitable for the filmmakers. ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ picked up pace with time and is expected to earn huge amount during the weekend which also happens to be extended with Independence Day on Tuesday.
Early predictions reveal that ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ has earned 15 crores on its first day at the box office.
The film follows the story of a newly wed couple played by Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar who live in a small town. They fall in love and get married but problem ensues when Bhumi’s character has to walk miles for sanitary purposes because there is no toilet at home. She leaves her in-laws’ home and asks for a toilet to be built in order to return. The film which garnered positive response from critics and audience alike is supposed to strike a chord with the audience and emerge as one of the biggest hits of the year.
