Amazon Web Services formed AWS Marketplace in 2012, and it is a one-stop place for finding an application that operates on AWS. At present, AWS Marketplace has over 37 categories, which include business software, software infrastructure, developer tools, and desktop software.

The internet store is one of the fastest-growing services of AWS, often adding the latest technology partners, which is looking to fill the service gaps or appeal to many customers of AWS’.

However, how does this Marketplace work? What will you find there? Let us find out more details about AWS Marketplace and why you must sell on it!

AWS Marketplace

What’s the AWS Marketplace?

AWS Marketplace is the online store for the customers to compare, find, and start using the services running on AWS. The visitors to the AWS Marketplace may use one-Click deployment to launch the preconfigured software & pay for what they have used, by per hour or month. The AWS handles payments and billing, and the software charges come on their customer’s AWS bill.

Shopping at the AWS Marketplace Made Easy

The customer with an AWS account will be able to shop in the AWS Marketplace. But, they just need to be a bit familiar with the Elastic Compute Cloud instances before buying the vendor software.

This store provides commercial software products that are targeted to developers and companies and open-source software. Their four primary product categories comprise of:

  1. Developer tools, like an issue or bug tracking, source control & testing and monitoring;
  2. Software infrastructure includes security, migration, OSes, and big data applications;
  3. Desktop software includes MS Windows desktop apps for the accounts payable & billing, encoding and media, project management, and various other Windows applications.
  4. Business software comes in categories from business intelligence, collaboration, e-commerce to recovery.

Software and solutions sold in the AWS Marketplace will be run just on the Amazon EC2; and it is not available for download.

How does the AWS Marketplace work?

The customers have to pick a preconfigured software that they like to buy & launch them immediately by using 1-Click Deployment that offers the same experience as 1-Click Ordering available only to the users on Amazon.com. (When customers prefer, they may skip 1-click installation & develop their software using their own tools.) The purchases are through SaaS or Amazon Machine Image.

Amazon Machine Images are achieved directly from the AWS, will be created & shared through various communities, or bought from the vendors through the AWS Marketplace.

Quick setup

The primary benefits of the AMI deployment are the process is faster and smoother than the traditional program installations. With the software delivered as AMI on its Marketplace, there’s not any manual installation, lengthy configuration procedure, or extra hardware requirements over the user side.

Who sells AWS Marketplace software?

The vendors are the members of AWS Partner Network and AWS global network for the technology & consulting partners. They will include independent vendors, resellers as well as systems integrators.

Top companies using AWS Marketplace

The current participating SaaS vendors list include Check Point, CA, Microsoft, IBM, SAP, and Red Hat, among many other small and large sellers. The open-source offerings are MediaWiki, Drupal, and WordPress.

Become the AWS Marketplace Seller Now

As per Amazon, the vendors after completing their seller registration should sell publicly found software, which fits in their store’s supported categories.

The vendors should have “a strong customer satisfaction record” and offer tax information for the paid AMI products. Also, they should demonstrate clear and strong business operations and legal practices. They should place top priority to keep the products updated & virus-free. They should verify that AWS cloud hosts & runs the software over EC2 instances.

Handling vendor payments?

Amazon manages to bill for their software purchases & manages payouts to its participating vendors. When the AWS customer buys any vendor software, the cloud provider adds this cost to their customer’s AWS bill. The sellers will apply many different costing models to the software, which includes free, monthly, hourly, usage-based billing, or BYOL. AWS may charge the seller fees as per the pricing model that the vendor selects.

Try before buying

With several products found on the Marketplace, there’re many ways you can ‘try before buy’. The best way is by spinning up the free trial of the product, and it is one offer given by big vendors on this Marketplace.
